Alex Grover, performing arts lead, told the school committee on Aug. 11 that the district will consolidate performing‑arts participation fees and bring 14 previously booster‑funded alternate stipends into the school system for Human Resources and finance processing.
Grover said the shift aims to create parity with athletics, where participation fees, registration and stipend payment flow through district systems. The change will standardize registration through an online platform (arbiter or equivalent), enable a family‑fee waiver process, and ensure stipends are posted in Human Resources as alternate‑funded positions rather than being paid informally by booster accounts.
Superintendent Dan Bauer and business officials said the cleanup addresses long‑standing inconsistencies, reduces reliance on boosters to pay stipends directly, and lets the district track participation fees and payroll through consistent school processes. The district also confirmed fees will include capacity for family hardship assistance consistent with other school activity fee policies.
The committee approved the recommended participation fees and the stipend/accounting change; administration said they coordinated with human resources and the business office before the recommendation.
Administrators said some positions may be filled by district employees (unit A staff) or by outside hires, depending on the role; stipend classification and retirement‑eligibility questions will be addressed through HR and, if necessary, bargaining or memorandum of agreement processes.
