Rockcastle County Board recognizes student athletes and staff achievements

The Rockcastle County Board of Education used its special-call meeting to recognize student and staff accomplishments, including the RCHS golf team, a Kentucky Teacher of the Year finalist and quarterly staff awardees.
Board members opened the meeting with a moment of silence before moving to the school-and-community showcase, where multiple students and district employees were honored.
The board recognized RCHS golfers and individual accomplishments, noting the five-man team’s finishes in local invitationals and a final statewide ranking of 10th. Board members also singled out senior Bridal Hodges for multiple all‑conference and region honors and said he has committed to play golf at the University of Pikeville.
The board presented a district teacher, Susan Coffey, as a Kentucky Teacher of the Year finalist. According to the board, Coffey advanced to the final nine from nearly 500 nominations statewide; a recognition ceremony in Frankfort honored the finalists over fall break.
The board also presented its quarterly “Rocket Leader” staff recognitions across seven district pillars (instruction, student readiness, student support and safety, operations, community, professional learning and others). Honorees named by the board included Beth Jones (Broadhead Elementary), Steven Renner (Broadhead Elementary), Marcus Refford, Mary Ann Childress (district accounts payable), JD Bussell (district coordinator), Jerica Brummet (post-secondary success navigator) and Matt Brown (Mount Vernon Elementary assistant principal). The board said the winners were chosen by peers through the district's community-based accountability model.
Board members and attendees took photos and gave brief remarks, thanking the honorees for “pouring into students” and celebrating the school district’s quarter‑by‑quarter recognition program.
