Daniel council approves engineer contract extension, water agreement and business licenses; sets rezone hearing

The Town of Daniel council on Aug. 4 approved several routine but consequential items affecting town operations and local businesses.

Engineering contract extension

Council voted to extend Jones & DeMille’s engineering services contract through Dec. 2025 and to authorize up to $45,000 in fees under the extension. Matt, an engineer with Jones & DeMille, told the council the firm has seen rising permit and inspection work and that staff performs many reviews and site inspections; the firm tracks monthly work against the contract budget. Council members said they wanted the option, when the extension ends, to competitively bid engineering services for 2026. The motion passed (recorded votes: Walton — yes; Kohler — yes; Pearson — yes).

Central Utah Water contract for Wasatch Mobile Home Park

The council approved a new sales agreement with Central Utah Water to supply domestic water to the Wasatch Mobile Home Park at 3000 South and Daniels Road. Town staff said the prior contract was not assumable; state funding will cover installation costs for the hookups (the permit/application authorized up to 10 domestic connections for the park). Meeting discussion noted the contract allows annual fees to be adjusted; participants referenced a current billed amount of $281 and an approximate annual figure of $875 discussed during the meeting. Council members also confirmed the town retains the ability to terminate the contract if an alternate water supply is later secured for the park. Motion passed (recorded votes: yes — Walton, Kohler, Pearson).

Business licenses and filming permit

The council approved a new one-day business license for King Street Productions, a location-services firm arranging a one-day film shoot in Daniel; location manager Amity Waldecker described coordination with property owners, Wasatch County Fire District deputies for traffic control, insurance and neighbor notification. The council also approved renewals for Heber Valley Storage LLC, John Velasky LLC (custom plastic fabrication) and Hungry Bunny Bakery. Motions to approve the new license and the three renewals passed without recorded opposition.

Rezone public hearing

The council set a public hearing for October on a completed application to rezone a parcel at 2530 South Daniels Road from RA-5 to industrial (applicant listed as ADCO). The planning department had received a completed application; the hearing scheduling was approved by council vote.

Other procedural notes

Council directed staff to plan a request for proposals for engineering services beginning Jan. 2026 so the town can compare bids when the current contract period ends.
