Commissioners allow TPWD to use Constable's Office parking lot for CWD sampling

Miss Damron, a Texas Parks and Wildlife representative, told the court the county site at 1405 east of the Constable’s Office would again serve as a check station for CWD sample collection and a rest point for seasonal staff. "This year is a little bit different. It's gonna be voluntary," Damron told the court, referring to the sampling protocol.
Damron provided statewide figures and local counts: statewide sample collection was about 13,000 animals last season, with 167 samples from Washington County and 19 from the previously targeted two-mile zone. She said Washington County still has a single positive result from March 2023 and that most statewide positives have been linked to breeder facilities. Commissioners asked for clarification about operations; Miss Dykeler thanked the court for allowing use of county property for multiple past seasons.
A motion to allow TPWD to use the parking lot was made and seconded; the court voted "aye" and the motion carried. The court did not attach additional conditions during the July 22 meeting.
Ending: TPWD will operate the collection check station at the county site during the upcoming deer season under the voluntary protocol described; staff will coordinate logistics with county offices.
