Single bid received to outfit four patrol vehicles; county refers bid for compliance review

Graham County opened bids Aug. 4 to outfit four patrol trucks for the sheriff’s office. County manager Dustin Welker and other staff said much of the county’s recent vehicle purchases have been funded by grants and that outfitting requires specialized local vendors.
The only bidder was American Emergency Products (based in Tucson), which submitted a bid of $89,357.80 to outfit all four vehicles. A supervisor moved to refer the single bid to county staff for an internal compliance review against bid specifications and for staff to determine whether to accept the bid or rebid; another supervisor seconded the motion and the board approved the referral by voice vote.
Board members noted the lack of local bidders and encouraged local procurement when feasible, but agreed that specialized vendors are limited in the region. The county will complete the review and return a recommendation to the board about whether to award the contract or solicit new bids.
