A resident and longtime boater told the Town Board on Oct. 8 that he observed numerous boats at Gilgo (Gilgo/Gilgal) Marina using portable generators on land with fuel cans and cords running to docks, which he said conflicts with marina regulations.
"I counted 12 different boats with this," Stephen Ramada (self‑identified) said, describing red Honda portable generators on shore connected by 30‑amp cords and multiple five‑gallon gasoline cans. He cited marina regulations requiring generators to remain on the boat, cords not to be draped over the dock and fuel containers to be stored on the vessel.
Ramada said he had contacted public safety and marina staff, who acknowledged the issue but advised additional follow‑up. He asked the board to have Commissioner Gerry Gigante look into the matter; the commissioner was present and the board asked staff to follow up.
The speaker said the situation poses a safety risk. The board directed the resident to speak directly with the commissioner for follow-up and the meeting record notes staff will investigate.
