The Chickasha Public School District Board approved a set of items to restore a school‑based social worker position under a new contract structure with Oklahoma Department of Human Services (OKDHS).
Under the new arrangement presented by district staff, the employee will become a district hire; OKDHS will reimburse approximately 80% of salary and benefits while the district covers the remaining 20%. Staff said the change should align the social worker’s schedule to the district calendar and reduce prior scheduling mismatches that occurred when the worker was employed directly by DHS. The board also approved a new job description for the school‑based social worker and an MOU with the Chickasha Association of Support Employees (CASE) that places the role on an agreed salary scale.
Why it matters: district staff described the position as "invaluable" for students with behavioral and social‑service needs. The change in employer and the 80/20 funding split was presented as a way to secure the position while aligning work days, holidays and supervision to district expectations.
Board members asked whether contract terms required changes; staff said the principal terms — DHS paying insurance and the 80/20 split — were acceptable and that DHS had prospective candidates already identified. The board approved the contract, job description and MOU; staff said the position would be posted immediately.
