Chickasha board approves guaranteed-maximum-price amendments for safe rooms, high school renovations

Dan Turner and Jeff McClure of the construction team reported refunds totaling $41,975.95 from a previous secure‑vestibule GMP and $6,846.44 from a stadium project — a combined refund of $48,822.39 — and said remaining contingencies and allowances should cover foreseeable conditions.
Why it matters: the amendments are the last set of projects funded from the prior bond issue and include work that district officials said is intended to reduce future maintenance needs while finishing bond commitments.
Board members asked about known risk areas and next steps. Construction staff highlighted two items they said could affect work on the Lincoln and Grand sites: a planned transformer upgrade and electrical reroute by Public Service Company of Oklahoma (PSO) at Lincoln, and potentially unsupportive soils that will require additional geotechnical work. McClure and Turner said PSO is planning a transformer replacement and reroute and that the district has contingencies and allowances in place. They described geotechnical mitigation that includes using deep piers (geopiers) and described Metco as the engineering firm that will test and observe foundation work to confirm soils and the number of tests required.
Board discussion noted the unusually favorable pricing compared with recent construction trends. A board member praised the team for coming in under budget and thanked Willowbrook and district staff for cooperation.
The board voted to approve the GMP amendments. The motion was seconded; at roll call at least one named board member (Allen) voted yes and the motion passed.
What’s next: staff said procurement letters to contractors will issue if the board’s approval stands; construction work and PSO coordination were described as set to move forward in the coming weeks, with contractors estimating three to four weeks before visible jobsite activity in some locations.
