Commercial Point — Council members reviewed a resume for a candidate the administration recommended for the village administrator position, questioned salary and part‑time start logistics, and asked staff to draft a hiring package for the November meeting.
Staff said they interviewed three candidates and recommended one applicant whose resume they described as “quite impressive.” The candidate’s name was not read into the record at length during the discussion; staff said the candidate has prior experience as a village administrator, water‑system operations knowledge and has authored technical material.
Council explored compensation and start date. Staff said the candidate expressed interest in beginning part‑time in December — not necessarily five days per week — to “get his feet wet” and to allow training and transition. Council and staff discussed whether a December part‑time arrangement would affect accrual of benefits such as vacation, and staff suggested the arrangement and personal leave plan could be written into the employment agreement so that scheduled family care would not be treated as additional leave beyond the candidate’s normal benefits.
One council member said they trusted staff’s judgment after interviews and supported moving forward; another noted the candidate requested a salary figure near $110,000 and that the board would need to consider budget implications. Staff said they would bring a formal hiring recommendation, contract terms and salary proposal to the November meeting for council action.
