Historical Museum commissioners object as board moves to review ordinance; staff directed to draft replacement in consultation

Commissioners, museum volunteers and members of the public addressed the Board of Supervisors on Oct. 20 before the board gave staff direction to pursue replacement governance documents for the El Dorado County Historical Museum.
Chair of the Historical Museum Commission Jacob Bridal told the board the commission has existed under ordinance since 1973, was created by law to safeguard county history and that a wholesale repeal without public protections would weaken the public voice in stewardship of the county collection. Bridal described the commission’s recent work — reopening the museum after a staffing vacancy earlier in 2025, supporting community programs such as the annual Save the Graves fundraiser, and helping secure a $10,000 grant tied to historic church preservation.
