The Yamhill City Council on Oct. 8 directed staff to research options for selling a 4,300‑square‑foot city‑owned flag lot that currently serves as a driveway easement for a private property. The council voted to authorize staff to consult the city attorney and planner as needed and to determine required procedures, including public notice and any hearing.
Staff said the parcel was documented in First American records and carries a previously noted value of $500 under an earlier transaction. The council’s direction was limited to researching the legal and administrative steps required to sell the parcel rather than approving a sale to a specific buyer.
“From a little part of research that I have done, it does require cities to give public notice before selling real property,” Angie said. Councilors asked staff to return with information about required steps, timelines and whether the property should be offered broadly or to a specific adjacent owner.
The motion to direct staff passed unanimously. Staff will report back with recommended procedures and any required legal actions.
