The Yamhill City Council voted unanimously Oct. 8 to appoint Carol Pendergast to the planning commission to fill a term ending Dec. 31, 2025. Councilors thanked Pendergast for volunteering and noted she will be sworn in before serving; staff will reach out to William King, another applicant, so he can be considered at the next meeting.
Angie, the city administrator/city recorder, explained the appointment covers the remainder of the existing term and that an appointee would need to reapply for the subsequent two‑year term beginning Jan. 1 if they wish to continue. “You’ll serve through the end December 31. And assuming that you wanted to reapply for the next term, you would have an opportunity to be appointed at our next meeting,” Angie told Pendergast.
Councilors said they prefer to allow interested applicants to remain engaged and to attend the next meeting for consideration for the full term.
The council arranged for Pendergast to be sworn in at either City Hall or at a planning commission meeting, per her convenience.
