Committee approves moving forward with $585,000 Arapahoe County joint-funding IGA for Triple Creek/Bridal Creek trailhead improvements

Kurt Bish, principal planner in the Planning, Design and Construction division, presented an intergovernmental agreement (IGA) that would secure Arapahoe County Open Space joint project funds for Phase 2 improvements at the Triple Creek (referred to in some materials as Bridal Creek) Trailhead.

Bish said the project budget for Phase 2 is $1,170,000 and that the High Line Canal Conservancy (referred to in the presentation as the conservancy) has agreed to cover half the cost; the county’s joint project funds would cover the remaining $585,000 if the IGA is executed. He described the trailhead site as located on the south side of Colfax Avenue between Airport Boulevard and Tower Road and noted the site connects to several regional trails, including the High Line Canal Trail.

Planned Phase 2 improvements include landscape plantings, interpretive signage, natural play elements, a bike skills course, public art and a small shade shelter. Bish said construction is anticipated to begin around April and finish by December of the construction year the project proceeds.

After the presentation, a council member said they were excited to visit the completed site and approved moving the IGA forward; another council member seconded and the committee voted to forward the IGA to the next study session for additional consideration. The committee did not record a formal roll-call vote in the transcript; the action recorded in the session was to advance the IGA for further review and council consideration.
