Council approves $20,248 drainage work to fix flooding at Ennis Field

The Trenton City Council on Oct. 6 approved work to address chronic flooding at Ennis Field in Slocum Park, awarding a proposal to Campbell Brothers for a subsurface drainage system at a total cost of $20,248.
Parks and Recreation Director Tim Beaker said previous attempts—adding dirt and adjusting the field slope—had not resolved the problem. The proposed work would install a system of weeping tile around the infield with lateral "fingers" and a connecting line to an existing catch basin to carry stormwater away from the playing surface. The contractor plans to add topsoil and regrade the surface after drainage installation.
Beaker estimated the contractor would complete work by the end of fall or possibly through part of winter, with everything finished before spring and the rainy season. Council member questions focused on the construction approach and whether the project would require tearing up the playing surface; Beaker said the surface would be regraded and blended rather than excavated to a stone base.
Council moved and supported the project and recorded unanimous approval. The work is intended to make the baseball field playable through wet periods in the spring.
