The Trenton City Council on Oct. 6 voted unanimously to accept a 2024 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) awarded through FEMA to the Trenton Fire Department.
Chief Anderson told the council the federal award totals $52,602.99 and will pay for equipment and instructor fees needed for surface-water and ice-rescue certification training. The department must provide a 5% local match of $2,630.16; staff said funds for the match are available in the fire department’s firefighting supplies budget (101-336-754).
Council moved and supported acceptance of the grant; no member voiced opposition. City staff said the grant will cover personnel training hours, instructor fees and equipment for both surface-water and ice rescue capabilities. The city will proceed to accept the award and obligate the local match from the identified budget line.
