Board approves two road closures for bridge replacement projects; contractor to begin work next week

Benton County supervisors approved two separate resolutions to close road segments while contractors replace bridges and install twin box culverts in Florence and Fort (Fort?) townships.
County staff reported that Iowa Bridge and Colbert were awarded two contracts earlier this year and have crews scheduled to start work next week. One project will close the road between 70 Fifth Street and 70 Sixth Street in Florence Township (resolution 25-86) for a concrete twin-box culvert replacement; the other will close 50 Second Street between 20 Seventh Avenue Drive and 20 Ninth Avenue in Fort Township for a similar twin-box culvert project (resolution 25-87).
Staff said both projects are expected to proceed quickly once crews mobilize: most of the bulk work could be completed in about a month, although final work may continue after that. The county discussed rebar supply options and said whichever supplier delivers sooner will be used to avoid delays. Staff also provided a brief construction update on piling and pier work for a separate bridge project, describing pile lengths and the use of steel piling.
Supervisors moved and approved each resolution. The resolutions authorize temporary road closures for the duration of the construction projects and give county staff authority to coordinate contractor access and traffic control.
County staff said they will notify affected residents and manage detours while the contractors carry out the work.
