Trenton council establishes commercial rehabilitation district for 3360 West Jefferson

The Trenton City Council on Oct. 6 unanimously adopted a commercial rehabilitation district for property at 3360 West Jefferson Avenue (Parcel ID 54-015-01-0008-000).

City Attorney said the council previously found it had authority under Public Act 210 of 2005 to create such districts and that the district requirements in Sections 2(b) and 3 of the act had been met. The council acted after a public hearing on the proposal that produced no written or oral public comments.

The district designation covers lots 8–12 as recorded in Wayne County (citation in city materials) and was moved, supported and approved by roll call with all present members voting in favor. Council members recorded as voting yes were Benedetti; Kiava Wadden; Hornbeck; Rodriguez; Mayor Rezeppa; and Von Crooks. Councilman Nelson Perugy was excused.

Council members also set a follow-up public hearing and application review for 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 14, before the council's next regular meeting. City staff said that step was the proper next action in the application sequence following the initial public hearing and first reading.

The council's action uses the commercial rehabilitation district process in Public Act 210 of 2005 (as amended). The city clerk had published notice of the hearing and accepted written comments at the clerk's office; none were received for the Oct. 6 hearing.

Votes and scheduling notes from the meeting indicate the council completed the initial statutory steps and moved the application to the next hearing date for formal review of the application materials.

The council will take additional public comment at the Oct. 14 hearing, per the published notice.
