Parks director announces Casa Las Palmas patio enclosure, upcoming events and volunteer appreciation

At the Oct. 22 meeting the City of Santa Barbara Parks and Recreation Department provided several facility and program updates. Director Zachary said Casa Las Palmas — the small building on the north side of Chase Palm Park originally opened in 1998 — has an enclosed patio with an accessible entrance and interior refresh; an open house and ribbon-cutting are scheduled for Nov. 5 at 1:15 p.m.
Zachary said the Casa Las Palmas work was funded in part by the city's remaining redevelopment-agency funds paired with Measure C dollars, and that the restroom adjacent to the playground received a refresh. The director also reminded commissioners about a trunk-or-treat event at Spencer Adams (next Thursday, 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.) and an Adapted Recreation Halloween dance on Halloween at the Curio Ballroom, which includes a performance by World Dance for Humanity.
Zachary noted the Mission Historical Park rose garden (AC Postel Rose Garden) volunteer appreciation event the following week and invited commissioners to attend. No formal actions were taken on these items; they were presented as staff reports.
The department said it will arrange a separate time for commissioners to tour Casa Las Palmas.
