WellWise Services presents semiannual report; area plan approved and community survey to launch

Goings said the Commission on Services of Aging approved the agency’s Area Implementation Plan in August and that the final version will be published on the agency website. She said WellWise’s three-year community needs survey will launch next month and that WellWise and Jackson Department on Aging will co-host a community conversation on Nov. 17 at 9:30 a.m. at the Crouch Center; Goings said information gathered will inform the state plan on aging.
Goings described recent recognition and advocacy work: WellWise presented at two national conferences and received two national awards (one for community education and one for the Safe Haven program). She said she and staff met last week with U.S. Rep. Tim Walberg to discuss needs of older adults, adults with disabilities, and caregivers, and that the agency is monitoring the federal government shutdown and coordinating contingency plans with contractors. Goings also said the direct-care worker premium pay rate of $3.40 per hour will continue into fiscal 2026.
She noted program metrics and service reach: WellWise contracts with about 80 providers across Jackson, Lenawee and Hillsdale counties and served a record 930 individuals in the My Choice waiver program in fiscal year 2025. Goings invited commissioners to upcoming trainings and conferences where WellWise will present.
By motion, the commissioners received the semiannual report. No formal vote tally was recorded in the transcript other than a voice vote.
