Cynthia Curtin, recently appointed judge of the Stowe Municipal Court, introduced herself to the Twinsburg Board of Education and offered to provide free classroom presentations for middle and high school students about the collateral consequences of criminal convictions.
"I bring 35 years of litigation experience to the bench," Curtin said, adding that she has handled trials, appellate arguments, arbitration and mediation. Curtin told the board she is "available to talk to any middle school or high school class" and that her presentations and an in-service for educators would be provided at no charge to the district.
Curtin described topics she would cover, including how convictions can affect driver’s-licence status, enhanced offenses, expungement eligibility and court costs, which she called "tag alongs" to convictions that many people do not anticipate.
Board members thanked Curtin for the offer and indicated the district would follow up through the usual scheduling channels; Curtin provided contact information on a sign-up sheet included with her blue card.
The meeting also included multiple community announcements from district leaders and attendees: - Twinsburg High School and district activities: The district noted a CVCC college night at 6 p.m., Oct. 8 as National Testing Day for high school students, senior sunrise and senior sunset events for the Class of 2026, and the Class of 2026 fundraising campaign "$26 for '26." The district encouraged families to support fall athletics and extracurricular events. - PTA dine-to-donate: The Twinsburg PTA will host a dine-to-donate at Handel's Ice Cream on Tuesday, Sept. 9, from 3 to 8 p.m.; district teachers and staff will serve as volunteer 'celebrity scoopers' and Interim Superintendent Steve Marlow was noted as scheduled to attend some hours of the event. - Twinsburg Baseball League MVP event: The Twinsburg Baseball League announced its annual MVP event will be Saturday, Sept. 6, at Liberty Park from 3 to 6 p.m.; the event celebrates players with physical or developmental challenges, is free to attend, and provides equipment and volunteers to serve as 'buddies.' Contact details were provided in the announcement. - Band and athletics: A board member commended the Twinsburg High School band for a recent competitive performance and noted the band and soccer teams will perform at events including a Sept. 13 competition at Solon High School.
Those public announcements were made during the district reports and public-comments portions of the meeting; no formal board action was taken on the events during this session.
