BPW approves street closures and event permits; Old National Events Plaza request granted pending insurance

The Evansville City Board of Public Works approved a slate of event road‑closure and barricade requests for Signature School graduations, the Saint Vincent Early Learning Center family run, Easterseals' Fantasy Lights event and other community activities.
Most event requests were routine and the board approved them by voice vote. The board read and approved closures and barricade requests including a senior photograph closure on Main Street for Signature School, a graduation safety buffer on Main Street between Fifth and Sixth Streets, and the Saint Vincent Early Learning Center’s family run that routes through Bidgeon Creek Greenway on June 8.
The board also addressed a late submission for a Locust Street closure requested by Old National Events Plaza for the EVSC Foundation Festival of Nations (April 17, noon–11:30 p.m.). Sarah Snyder, representing Old National Events Plaza, requested the closure to allow food trucks to serve outside the exhibit hall entrance. City staff and counsel said the board could approve the closure contingent on receipt and review of insurance certificates and required waivers; staff indicated Todd’s group and counsel would confirm paperwork before barricades and final approval were issued. The board voted to approve the request pending the required insurance and waivers.
Board members said the event organizers have partnered with city staff previously and staff will verify insurance and waivers before final clearance. The meeting record shows the conditional approvals and standard permit requirements (maintenance of traffic per Indiana MUTCD) for the right‑of‑way permits.
