WRWC legislative subcommittee reports on SB286 and SB276

WRWC staff provided an update April 16 on the commission’s legislative tracking for the 2025 Nevada Legislature, highlighting two bills the legislative subcommittee has been monitoring.

SB286 would expand the Local Government Cooperation Act to explicitly include tribal entities among those with which state and local governments are expected to coordinate. Staff told the commission the Northern Nevada Water Planning Commission already includes tribal representation and that, as they read the bill, WRWC and NNWPC would not be required to take additional actions to comply.

SB276 is a reporting bill related to disclosure obligations for certain discharges. The legislative subcommittee recommended WRWC support SB276, saying it would increase transparency about when and under what circumstances local government entities must report specified discharges.

Staff noted the subcommittee met jointly with the Truckee Meadows legislative committee during the session and that few bills directly affected the WRWC’s processes; SB286 and SB276 were the items discussed most frequently by the subcommittee.

No formal vote by the full commission was required on the report; commissioners had no further questions and accepted the update.
