Council narrows proposed 15-ton limit to eastern portion of Woodlawn Ranch Road after residents raise damage concerns

Terrebonne Parish officials amended a proposed ordinance to prohibit vehicles weighing more than 15 tons on a residential section of East Woodlawn Ranch Road, changing the proposed boundary to run from Kynes Road eastward to Louisiana Highway 56.
The committee first moved to revisit an earlier motion and then rescinded the previous language before adopting substitute wording. The substitute motion—amending the proposed ordinance to specify East Woodlawn Ranch Road from Kynes Road east to Highway 56—was moved by Councilman Ric Pledger and seconded by Councilwoman Kim Chauvin. The substitute passed on a voice vote of 8-0.
Council members said the change was intended to exclude industrial stretches west of the bridge and to focus protections on the residential area where homeowners reported structural damage. Councilman Chris Pulaski (speaking on the map and boundaries) recommended Kynes Road as the eastern residential start point because it aligns with cemetery access and neighborhood streets; Pulaski said the residential portion is bounded on the south by Jimboo Road and on the north by Kynes (Kynes) Road.
Councilwoman Chauvin said residents told the council that drywall cracking and other damage stemmed from large trucks using the residential segment. The revised ordinance language will go forward to a public hearing called for Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at 6:30 p.m.
