NDOT staff outline US 50 resurfacing, SR 28 open house and upcoming safety plan

Rebecca, a staff member, told the board that eastbound US 50 between a State Route intersection and Winners Parkway will be reduced to single lanes for a resurfacing project and apologized for expected delays.

Rebecca said the US 50 East Shore resurfacing in Tahoe is expected to move forward around May and could begin a week earlier if the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency grants an exception. "We're sorry for the inconvenience and delays, but also we wanna remind everybody that speeding is a main contributor to a lot of our fatalities and serious injuries," she said.

She announced a joint open house on State Route 28 improvements scheduled for April 30 from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at the Incline Library. The open house, hosted by the Tahoe Transportation District with Nevada Department of Transportation participation, will include information on a Tahoe Transportation District parking project near Rocky Point, SR 28 Central Corridor improvements and an NDOT Spooner Transit Hub parking project and watercraft inspection center.

Rebecca said the agency is preparing the strategic highway safety plan for 2026–2030 and that a federal requirement expects the plan to be completed and signed by the governor by the end of 2025. She offered to bring a report on the strategic highway safety plan to the board as it develops.

She also reminded the public that Work Zone Safety Awareness Week runs April 21–25 and urged motorists to drive cautiously in work zones because unsafe driving there can lead to severe injury or death for workers.

The presentation closed with staff offering to take board feedback and report back at a future meeting.
