Board approves academic team, credits for tech-center courses and personnel actions after executive session

The Bethany Public Schools Board of Education on April 14 approved several personnel and academic items following a closed executive session. The board voted to add a high school academic team beginning in the 2025–26 school year, authorized eleventh- and twelfth-grade credit for math and science courses taken at Canadian Valley Technology Center, approved a revised student-policy item on general student policies and accepted hiring and resignation addenda after executive session.

The board convened an executive session using the statutory authority cited in the meeting — “25 O.S. 307(B)(1)” — to discuss personnel matters. Board members reported that only the board and the superintendent were present in executive session, that only listed agenda items were discussed and that no votes were taken during the closed session. After returning to open session, the board approved hiring listed in addendum A and accepted resignations and retirements listed in addendum B by roll call.

Earlier in the meeting the board approved the new high school academic team and the accreditation item allowing eleventh- and twelfth-grade credit for math and science courses offered at Canadian Valley Technology Center; both measures passed on roll-call votes. On board policy, staff said the EA general student policies required revision to reflect a rule change that affected how the district observes moment-of-silence and flag procedures; the board approved the revised policy.

Votes were by roll call and were recorded as approved; board members asked few substantive questions on the academic or accreditation items. The executive session and subsequent votes completed the personnel and accreditation business listed on the agenda.
