The Bethany Public Schools Board of Education approved its consent agenda on April 14, which included multiple vendor contracts for fiscal year 2025 and 2026, revisions to activity fund accounts and acceptance of financial reports.
The listed contracts in the consent agenda included rental contracts for facilities, a YMCA camp contract, a LabDeck mobile drug-testing contract, a Specialty Care Medical Pediatrics, Inc. contract, an Instructure contract, and Fowler Financial Consulting Services. Board members asked staff clarifying questions about vendor changes; one board member asked whether a bus-driver vendor (referred to by a speaker as having changed names) was a new company and staff replied it appeared to be a name/ownership transition rather than a new vendor.
The board approved a proposal to combine two activity accounts (hospitality and miscellaneous) because they are being used for the same purpose, and to create a distinct account for funds raised for an Israel exchange program. A staff member explained the Israel account holds accumulated fundraising from group and individual efforts, refunds for students who requested them, and donations; the balance cited in discussion was about $29,000. The staff member said, “We have issued refunds for the people who wanted a refund … it’s just leftover from that fundraising and what hasn't been refunded.” The board approved the account changes and accepted the financial reports.
The board also approved temporary financial appropriations for the 2025-26 fiscal year, a routine action required to begin the new fiscal year and submit estimates to the county excise board.
All consent agenda items and the temporary appropriations motion passed by roll call vote.
