SAN FRANCISCO — At its April 16 meeting the Police Commission heard updates from the Department of Police Accountability and SFPD’s internal affairs and review boards, which outlined caseloads, aggregate disciplinary trends and recent reviews of officer-involved shootings and in-custody deaths.
Paul Henderson, executive director of the Department of Police Accountability, told the commission that DPA has partnered with the city controller on a review of a 2023 audit concerning officer misconduct and will present findings to the commission in coming months. Henderson said that since the prior meeting DPA had opened 13 new cases and closed 22 cases, and that DPA’s case closures are up compared with the prior year; he reported there were 93 sustained cases pending with the chief and two pending with the commission.
