The Le Mars City Council approved a $7,500 funding request to help the Le Mars Community School music boosters stage the Bulldog Battle of the Bands at Le Mars Community Stadium.
The Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) advisory board recommended council approval despite the application being submitted after the grant deadline. Staff noted the event date was omitted from the initial application but was later identified as Sept. 20. The advisory board estimated 15 to 20 band entries, 600 to 800 student participants and 1,500 to 2,000 spectators; one council member said actual spectator numbers could be higher.
A motion to approve the $7,500 request was made, seconded and the presiding officer recorded the motion as carried. The meeting record did not include the names of the mover and seconder or a roll-call tally.
The council packet indicated the event will be held at Le Mars Community Stadium and that the CVB advisory board considered the event likely to attract visitors and hotel stays. No contract or funding agreement language was read into the record at the meeting; staff did not state any additional conditions attached to the funding approval during the discussion.
