The Judiciary & Legislation Committee approved confirmations of three mayoral appointments to the Board of Review at its April 14 meeting.
Rafael Garcia, introduced as founder and executive director of Community First (a nonprofit affordable housing organization) and a carpenter by trade, was nominated for the board by the mayor as the 15th district appointee. Alderman Chambers moved confirmation; the committee raised no objections and ordered confirmation.
Martin Matson, a recent retiree who previously served eight years as city controller and had experience with the retirement system and public works, was nominated for the 10th district seat. Alderman Chambers moved confirmation; hearing no objections, the committee ordered confirmation.
Ken Little, a long-time Milwaukee resident with experience in banking and the Milwaukee Urban League and a former DCD commercial corridor employee, was nominated for the Second District seat. Alderman Chambers moved confirmation; the committee ordered confirmation without objection.
Each nominee offered a brief statement about background and their intent to serve. The committee recorded motions to confirm and took no votes against the nominees.
Why it matters: Board of Review members handle appeals related to property assessment and other review functions; the appointees cited community experience and prior public service.
Next steps: Appointees will assume duties consistent with the Board of Review's schedule and governance process.
