The Madera County Assessment Appeals Board accepted a withdrawal of an appeal tied to “Core project” case 2424 R001, denied a hearing requested by Messer LLC for lack of appearance (case 24R019), approved the consent calendar, and voted to cancel its May 1 meeting and schedule the next meeting for Aug. 7 during a short session called on April 3.
Board members moved quickly through routine business. The clerk of the board swore in parties at the start of the hearing segment but said no parties were present for the listed hearings. The board approved the consent calendar, consisting only of the minutes, by voice vote.
On agenda item 5A the clerk reported that the applicant for Core project 2424 R001 had formally withdrawn. A board member moved to accept the withdrawal; the motion was seconded and the board voted in favor, formally recording the withdrawal as accepted.
On agenda item 5B, the board considered a scheduled hearing for Messer LLC (case listed as 2R24R019 / 24R019 / agenda item 11713). Tran Cooper, identified in the meeting as a representative of the county assessor’s office, told the board the assessor’s office last contacted the appellant on Aug. 8, 2024 and had not received further correspondence. Cooper said, “I have not heard from her since. I have tried to make contact. I still have not heard as of this morning. I would like to request a deny for lack of appearance.” The board moved to deny the hearing for lack of appearance, the motion was seconded and the denial was approved by voice vote.
Separately, during non-hearing matters the board considered its schedule for upcoming meetings. A board member moved to cancel the May 1 Assessment Appeals Board meeting and to hold the next meeting on Aug. 7. The assessor’s office representative concurred; the board voted to cancel the May meeting and schedule Aug. 7 as the next meeting date.
The meeting record shows no stipulations of excess value were presented, no substantive public comment was offered, and there were no staff reports or agenda requests beyond the scheduling change. The board adjourned after completing the listed items.
