Several community groups told KWCD listeners about local events this weekend, from a street fair in Sierra Vista to youth nature programming in Palominas.
Allison, the City of Sierra Vista special events coordinator, said the fourth annual WestFest street fair runs Saturday on Fry Boulevard between North Avenue and North Garden Avenue from noon to 6 p.m. She said organizers expect more than 50 local businesses, craft vendors and food trucks, two stages of live music and a chalk art contest run by the city's Arts, Humanity, Culture and Diversity Commission. Streets will be closed starting at 6 a.m. with the festival area fenced and five entrance points for attendees.
Lori Fife Coates from the Huachuca City Lions Club described two fundraisers: a prize bingo at 2 p.m. Saturday with advanced cards available and an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast Sunday from 8 to 10:30 a.m., with adults $8 at the door and $6 in advance. She said proceeds support the Lions' eyeglass assistance, camp programs and building repairs and invited residents to contact the club president, Christy, at (520) 508-3120 for more information.
Captain Heather of the Salvation Army promoted a spaghetti fundraiser for the Good News Club from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday and an upcoming Rise AZ event on April 26 featuring multiple musical acts and volunteering opportunities. The Salvation Army also plans a Good Friday bread-and-broth service and prayer walk with additional outreach.
Jacob from Curious Quails, a youth nature program under the University of Arizona Cooperative Extension and AZ Health Zone, said a free family event will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Palominas Multi-Use Trail next to Palominas Elementary School. Activities include a nature-themed egg hunt, sensory and craft stations, a short community walk and partner tables from Cochise County Health and Social Services; Curious Quails plans monthly events across Cochise County through the year.
Representatives encouraged attendees to respect neighbors when parking, to use entrance points at WestFest, and to follow posted information on organizers' social-media pages for updates.
