The Fort Smith Planning Commission on April 8 approved an amendment to the Unified Development Ordinance to allow duplexes to have driveway access on classified streets and to add minor arterial streets to the list of classified streets eligible for such access.
Planning staff said the amendment to UDO section 27-5-034 corrects an inadvertent omission that currently prohibits duplex access on classified streets. Staff told commissioners that the commission had granted five subdivision variances allowing duplex access on classified streets earlier and that the proposed amendment would align the ordinance with those recent approvals and add any missing minor arterials to the classification list.
Commission discussion was brief and characterized by support for the staff cleanup. The commission approved the UDO amendment in a unanimous roll-call vote, 7-0. Staff recommended the amendment.
