District among 10 in New Jersey awarded DOE artificial intelligence grant to develop AI policy and curriculum

Foster said the grant timeline runs from May through December and that key objectives include developing a stronger district AI policy, conducting AI outreach events for faculty and students, supporting the development of AI curriculum and enhancing instructional practice. Foster also said the district will consult with faculty from The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) as part of the project.
Assistant Superintendent Veil Desai and other administrators provided context about staff professional development tied to the initiative; the board heard that the grant will fund outreach and curriculum work rather than immediate operational purchases. No separate board vote on accepting the grant award was recorded during the meeting because Foster presented the update as a committee report and described the district as a grant recipient.
Board members and staff said the grant will be used to draft policy, build teacher capacity and pilot classroom activities related to AI during the 2025 calendar year.
