District received two bids for school feasibility study; town council to decide funding

The Burrillville School Department received two bids for a feasibility study of school buildings and possible consolidation or construction, the superintendent reported April 8, and will seek town council direction on funding.
Dr. Salito said the district solicited proposals and received a low bid of $75,000 and a second bid of $157,000. He said the next step is to present the bids to the town council to determine whether the council will fund the study now or delay until budget clarity. "I'll be reaching out to the town manager this week to determine next steps and decide if he would like me to present this to the town council," he said.
The feasibility study is intended to produce options for consolidation, new construction, or other restructuring and would inform a space needs committee if the town funds the study. The committee discussed that the first meeting of the space needs committee would be convened pending approval and funding of the feasibility study.
Dr. Salito also reminded the committee that the New England Association of Schools (NES) visiting team will conduct the high school decennial visit in May and that school staff have been preparing for the review for more than a year.
Ending: The superintendent said he will notify the committee of the town manager’s decision and next steps regarding the feasibility study and space needs committee if the town council agrees to fund the work.
