Several residents used the public‑comment period to urge council support for a proposed Oroville Bocce Club and to request city assistance with funding and a location for courts.
Ed (first name only during public comment) opened remarks describing the club’s organization and said the group had secured approval from the golf course to site courts there and that they are pursuing nonprofit status. “We already have we have a bigger audience today … we’re putting together, and we're gonna have some Bocce courts out here in the cities,” the speaker said.
Janice White (full name) told the council she is forming the nonprofit and reported more than 90 people had expressed interest. She described cost estimates for courts and coverings: “at about $22.05, 20 2 thousand 5 hundred. And the covering … we’ve gotten a bid on, for around 35,000.” Janice said local organizations have offered fundraising support and tournament participation.
Why it matters: The requests are currently at the public‑comment stage and no formal city action was taken. Speakers asked only for advice, connections and funding help while they complete nonprofit filings and fundraising.
Ending: Council members invited the Bocce Club organizers to follow up with staff and encouraged them to pursue local fundraising and grant options; staff offered to accept contact cards and follow up.
