Senate Labor Committee delays portion of labor budget over workforce development fund; posts policy bill DE amendment

Chair McEwen told the Senate Labor Committee it has delayed finalizing part of the labor budget because of an unresolved workforce development account, has reserved Friday for additional hearings, and has posted the policy bill (Senate File 2149) with DE A7. At the start of the April 8 meeting, Chair McEwen told members the committee had delayed resolving a portion of its labor budget because of an unresolved workforce development account and that the overall budget bill would be "not very large" and include familiar provisions.
Because the timeline has been shortened, McEwen said the committee reserved the hearing room for Friday to give the public more time to review the budget language and prepare testimony and to give members time to draft amendments. "Please stay in touch with us," McEwen said, adding the committee would send a delete‑all as soon as it was ready and that a listserv notice describing the contents had been sent.
McEwen said the budget bill will contain the language of Senate File 2373 as it was returned to the committee and the current language of Senate File 908. The committee also added Senate File 2149 to the agenda as its policy bill; McEwen said the DE amendment A7 to that bill had been posted.
Members asked procedural questions about when amendments might be considered. Senator Dornick asked whether amendments could be taken Thursday, and McEwen replied she hoped so but had reserved Friday in case more time was needed. Senator Jornick asked whether the delete‑all might be posted the same day; McEwen said that was the committee’s hope.
McEwen said the committee will still see the budget bill in the Senate Finance Committee, on the Senate floor and in conference committee as part of the normal process, and invited members to raise concerns with committee staff or the administrator, Fabian Beam.
The committee adjourned after the scheduling remarks.
