St. Clair Shores City Council took several routine actions April 7, approving a parade permit and multiple capital and personnel items.
Parade: The council approved a resolution to hold the 2025 Memorial Day Parade on Harper Avenue on May 25, closing the route from 9 Mile to 11 Mile, and accepted the parade committee’s request for volunteers and fundraising. Pam Mason, parade committee chair, and volunteer coordinator Maria Gala described staffing needs; the council voted to approve the parade request unanimously. Motion to approve made by Council member Revels and seconded by Council member Frederick.
Police DROP extension: Council extended Police Chief Jason Allen’s participation in the Deferred Retirement Option Plan (DROP) for an additional three years, through 2028, pursuant to Public Act 728. Chief Allen and council members noted the continuity the extension provides while the new police facility is under construction; the resolution passed by voice vote.
Civic Arena dehumidifier: The council approved a purchase of a replacement wheel assembly for the Civic Arena dehumidification unit from Delta Temp for $53,500, with an associated budget amendment. Robert Spinazzola, Parks and Recreation director, said replacing the wheel should extend the life of the dehumidification system 5–10 years and removed the full replacement from the capital plan. The motion was moved by Council member Frederick and supported by Council member Karen; the measure passed unanimously.
Solinski Green Farmhouse roof: Staff recommended and the council awarded a contract to Weatherseal Home Improvements to remove and replace the cedar shingle roof (plus gutters and downspouts) for the Solinski Green Farmhouse. The bid was $38,280; with a 10% contingency the total award was $42,108 to be split between the general fund and the historical commission repair account. Council member Frederick moved the award; the motion passed unanimously.
Each item was on the council’s consent or near‑consent agenda and passed with majority approval; where funding or contingency was required, staff said the budget adjustments would be processed through departmental budgets.
