Canfield's zoning inspector reported issuance of two beekeeping permits in March, a demolition permit and multiple zoning permits. The inspector said both beekeeping permits were for the same property owner with locations on West Main and South Florida.
Design review met recently and approved several items related to the historic district, including new decks. The Hercules Car Wash applied to add an associated dog-wash behind its existing facility; the design-review discussion asked that the operator provide screening "to protect a little bit of the visual from the street." Councilors and the zoning inspector discussed whether a dog wash is a permitted associated use for a car wash, and several members characterized it as equipment or an associated use similar to vacuum equipment.
Planning & Zoning will hold a public hearing prior to its next meeting for the Dairy Queen (DQ) conditional-use application for a drive-through, and staff continue to work through the demolition and building permits necessary for the DQ project.
The zoning inspector also reported new signage resulting from a bank acquisition (noted in the meeting as "West Banko" acquiring Premier Bank); staff said new signage will be installed. Council asked where the beekeeping permits are located; the inspector provided the street names and said the same owner holds both permits and that he has obtained the permits annually for several years.
No formal council action on the Hercules or DQ items was recorded at the council meeting; those matters remain in the planning and design-review process.
