West Warwick council approves sewer chemical contract, analyzer purchase, licenses and small grants

On Tuesday, April 1, the West Warwick Town Council approved a series of routine and operational items, including two sewer-related resolutions, multiple business licenses, two small tax cancellations and a $100 sponsorship for St. Joseph's School drama program.
Acting in its capacity as the sewer commission, the council approved resolution SC-2025-9 awarding the bid for a potassium-based odor-control chemical to Chemrite Inc. Jeff, a town staff member who presented the item, said the council selected the lowest bidder and that the chemical will be used for odor control at the wastewater facility. "It's $2.11 a pound," Jeff said, and he described purchases being organized as 55-gallon pails packed in totes of 36.
The council then approved resolution SB-2025-10 to purchase a phosphorus process analyzer. Jeff said only one company bid on the analyzer and that the bidder was based in California. He described the instrument as necessary to monitor phosphorus and to inform dosing of alum and other chemicals; he said the device will help the town meet tighter permit limits as the permit season moves toward a lower removal requirement. "That I am unsure of. I have to reach out to the vendor, and I'll have an update after that," Jeff said when asked how long installation will take.
Council members approved a slate of business licenses listed at the meeting, including licenses tied to a craft fair, a mobile food establishment named Allie and Ellie Freshly Squeezed, Pentagon Dry Clean, Wakefield Hills Elementary PTO, a raffle license for Christ the King and Snacker LLC. The council also approved two small tax cancellations: one for $624.26 and another for $16.61. The cancellations were described as requested by the town's tax adjustment function.
The council approved a $100 sponsorship for the St. Joseph's School drama program; council members noted the town has sponsored the program in prior years.
Votes on the individually moved items were taken by voice; each motion was approved by the council, recorded at the meeting as "Aye" with the chair announcing, "Ayes have it." No roll-call vote tallies naming individual council members were provided in the transcript.
Less substantive agenda items, including approval of minutes from March 17 and March 18 budget workshop minutes and March 24 budget workshop minutes, were approved on the consent agenda without discussion.
