South Adams County Fire to host April 25 workforce career expo with live house-fire demo and student showcase

South Adams County Fire public information officer Maria Carbajal and Captain Edders told the Adams County commissioners during the April 1 public comment period that the department will host a workforce career expo on April 25 at the South Adams County Fire Training Center, 9911 104th Avenue, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Carbajal described the event as a showcase of high school students who participated in an ARPA-funded workforce cooperative that connects students with building-trades contractors. Captain Edders said the program brought plumbers, electricians and masons together with participating high schools to build a training house at the facility and reported 100 percent on-time or early graduation among participating students.
He said this year the expo will emphasize building construction and materials that prevent fires, with an anticipated 50 contractors and more than 50 students expected to participate. The department said it will internally fund the program in future years. The event will include hands-on demonstrations and a live residential fire-sprinkler demonstration, and the public is invited to attend.
