House adopts standing committee reports; members urge transfer of Villages of Kapolei roads to city

Souza described the transfer as long overdue for residents, saying the transfer would allow the city to maintain the roads consistently, enable Honolulu Police Department enforcement of traffic codes on those streets, and address safety and visibility problems caused by overgrown vegetation.
Representative Souza said the resolution “urging the Hawaii Housing Finance and Development Corporation to continue working with the City and County of Honolulu to efficiently transfer the roads within the Villages of Kapolei” will be a start toward giving Villages of Kapolei residents “their due.” The remarks were entered as part of the companion-measures discussion; the standing committee reports including that resolution package were adopted on voice votes as described on the floor.
The House recorded reservations and no-vote requests for various committee reports from several members during the roll call on committee actions, but the overall motions to adopt the report packages passed by voice vote.
