Wendell approves grant agreement for Little River stormwater infrastructure mapping

The Wendell Town Board of Commissioners authorized an interlocal cooperation agreement with Central Pines Regional Council to receive $25,000 in grant funding for a Little River watershed stormwater infrastructure mapping and training project.
Sarah Lentine, a town staff member who presented the item, said the grant is a Section 205(j) Water Quality Planning Grant administered by the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality and funded by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The award will fund hiring a qualified firm to provide mapping and training services; Central Pines will administer the funds and provide administrative services.
Lentine described the mapping work as identifying the location, material, size, age and condition of stormwater infrastructure to help the town manage an increasingly complex inventory as Wendell grows. She said the grant provides $25,000 for consulting services and that the town will provide a $10,000 in‑kind match fulfilled through staff time already spent or planned for the project. “This does not have any impact to our current staff workloads,” Lentine said.
Commissioner Joiner moved to approve the agreement and authorize the town manager to sign; the board voted in favor.
