Local volunteers ask council for desk space at Lamar County shelter to help place animals

A group of volunteers who identified themselves as “Baby Guns” asked the Paris City Council during the public comment period on Aug. 25 for permission to set up a desk at the Lamar County Humane Association shelter to photograph and promote shelter animals on social media.
“We think that we can help more if we had a desk out at the shelter so we can help…network the dogs,” a volunteer said, adding the group has helped with rescues and a feral-cat trap-neuter-return program. The speaker said a visiting veterinarian is scheduled for Sept. 6 and was prepared to process up to 100 cats if volunteers could bring them in that day.
The mayor responded that staff would be referred to look into the request and the volunteers were instructed to contact city staff to continue coordination. No formal council action or funding was taken on the request during the meeting.
