Trustees received routine annual updates from four contracted service providers: General Engineering Company (GEC) for building inspection, Baker Tilly for the annual audit, Pelletier for trash and recycling services, and Ehlers for municipal advisory work.
Mike Parrott and Jim (GEC) described the village's switch to fully electronic building‑permit processing and said the digital portal has shortened plan‑review lead times and improved recordkeeping. "The feedback since we've gone strictly online is very, very positive," GEC said; trustees and staff thanked the contractor for making submission and records access easier for contractors and the public.
Amanda Blomberg of Baker Tilly summarized the annual audit process and explained the auditor's role in testing general‑ledger transactions, issuing an opinion on financial statements and reporting internal‑control observations. She described the audit calendar and the firm's ability to advise on other financial matters.
Todd Bolenbach from Pelletier reviewed the village's first year under its new solid‑waste contract. He told trustees that recycling recovery at Pelletier's material‑recovery facility is performing well and outlined expanded lists of acceptable materials (for example: #1–7 plastics, milk cartons, pizza boxes). Pelletier provided year‑to‑date figures through June that showed roughly 9,580 tons of trash and 292 tons of recycling collected by the company in the village's service area; per‑household averages were also provided during the presentation. Trustees discussed weekly vs. every‑other‑week recycling and asked staff to return comparative cost and diversion data.
Why it matters: These annual reviews show how contracted services are performing and give trustees a chance to ask questions about service levels, scheduling and cost trends. The inspection portal and recycling outreach are intended to reduce staff time and improve resident service.
What's next: Staff will provide the board with comparative data on weekly recycling vs. every‑other‑week collection at trustees' request. Pelletier offered facility tours to trustees and staff to show the company's sorting operations.
