The Evansville City Design Review Committee on Feb. 20 approved a plan to expand the east-facing garage and add a new driveway at 219 Washington to accommodate the owners' camper.
The homeowners told the committee they plan to extend the east-facing garage 6.5 feet toward Judson Avenue, cut the curb and install a sloped driveway so a camper can be backed into the enlarged garage. They said the work will extend the garage face to the property line and that they plan to reuse existing materials where possible so the exterior appearance “is gonna look identical to what it does now.”
The owners said they had coordinated with the city engineer and the engineering board and that the city engineer’s office had approved doing the curb cut and slope. They also said they will apply to the Board of Zoning Appeals for a variance to waive the 10-foot setback requirement; the owner said he expected to file the variance application that afternoon.
A committee member asked about how the raised garage door will align with existing decorative trim and scalloped siding; the owner replied he will raise the door and keep the scallop trim "all the way down to where it is." Committee members expressed support for the project, noting the city engineer and Area Plan Commission coordination, and moved and seconded approval.
