Forest Lake planner resigns; city to use temporary planning services

City planner Ken Roberts has resigned, and his last day will be next Friday, the City of Forest Lake announced at the April 14 council meeting. Abby (city staff) told the council that Roberts accepted a position as development director in North Saint Paul.
Abby said staff will meet with Bolton & Menk’s planning division to arrange temporary planning services while the community development department recruits to fill the position. She thanked Roberts for his service and said he helped re‑energize the planning division.
Abby also said she will speak at an upcoming Twin Cities development roundup hosted by the Sensible Land Use Coalition to present Forest Lake’s development opportunities. Other staff updates at the meeting included a police hiring announcement (two new officers started) and public works project timelines for Broadway and Highway 97 work.
The council did not take formal action on personnel replacement at the meeting; staff described next steps for temporary support and recruitment.
