Osceola County manager Don Fisher honored for 15 years leading county administration

The Osceola Board of County Commissioners on April 7 honored County Manager Don Fisher for 15 years leading the county's administration and credited his tenure with helping guide major growth and economic initiatives.

Chairwoman (unnamed) and several commissioners praised Fisher for his leadership since 2010. "It—s truly an honor to serve at your leadership and direction," Fisher said in brief remarks, thanking the board and staff.

Commissioners noted that when Fisher first began working in the building Osceola County's population was roughly 270,000; the county now serves more than 400,000 residents and was described in remarks as among the fastest-growing counties in the nation. Commissioners highlighted NeoCity, a 500-acre technology district promoted as a semiconductor and microchip-packaging hub, and said the initiative has attracted "more than $2 billion in public and private investments," including $50 million identified in remarks as Build Back Better funding. Commissioners also cited a county program referenced during remarks that provides two years of college or technical education for every graduating senior.

The board used the recognition to thank Fisher for direction on transportation and infrastructure projects that commissioners characterized as the largest-ever county investments, and to note the county's shift toward diversified economic development beyond agriculture and tourism.

Human resources also recognized Heidi Lockwood of the procurement office for 15 years of county service during the same meeting.

The remarks were ceremonial recognition of Fisher's service; no personnel action or contract change was recorded on the meeting agenda or in the transcript.
