Council accepts developer-donated site and impact-fee credit for Wellness Way fire station; adds temporary-site options

The City Council on April 8 approved a dedication agreement through which Olympus will convey a 1.75-acre parcel fronting Scofield Road for a future fire station in the Wellness Way area.
Claremont Fire Chief David Ezell said the parcel has full off-site stormwater and will be graded with stubbed utilities when the developer builds the phase that includes the site. The PUD included an impact-fee credit at market value; after discussion Olympus reduced its original $1.2 million ask to $300,000. The council accepted those revised terms and the dedication agreement, which also includes the developer’s commitment to assist—where feasible—with utilities and to coordinate timelines. The council noted the agreement allows a temporary facility if the city needs fire coverage before the permanent station is ready.
Chief Ezell reported Olympus is prepared to be a partner and indicated the company is talking with contractors to assist if an accelerated timeline is needed. Councilmembers thanked staff and the developer for negotiating terms and reducing the cost impact.
Ending The dedication clears a site for a future station and puts the city and developer on a schedule for site work and the possibility of a temporary facility if response needs outpace the development timeline. City staff will coordinate utility and timing tasks with Olympus and return status updates to the council.
