The Sykesville Planning Commission on April 7 approved the site plan for an accessory building and related site improvements at the Schoolhouse Road Apartments, contingent on required county approvals and correction of a labeling error on the plan.
Kevin, town planning staff, described the project as a two‑story accessory building with parking area improvements, new playgrounds, pedestrian upgrades and ADA access improvements to several units. “The existing number of standard parking spaces is gonna remain the same, across the entire site once all this is done, and then there will also be that gain of 1 ADA accessible space,” Kevin said.
Kevin told commissioners he had coordinated with county agencies and that no agency expected the layout to change to meet county requirements. He also noted a labeling error for speed humps that staff recommended be corrected as a condition of approval. “Staff does recommend approval of the plan with the condition that any labeling errors be corrected,” Kevin said.
A motion to approve the site plan carried by voice vote; the commission made approval conditional on obtaining any outstanding county approvals and correcting the labeling error noted by staff. The applicant was wished luck and will proceed with permitting and implementation.
