The Accomack County Board of Supervisors on April 14 approved an ordinance increasing the local cigarette tax from $0.20 to $0.40 for each package containing 20 cigarettes, effective July 1, 2025.
A board member moved to approve the attached ordinance to raise the cigarette tax to 40 cents per 20-cigarette package with the stated effective date of July 1, 2025. The motion received a second, and the chair called for the vote. The board voted in favor; the chair announced the motion carried unanimously.
The ordinance text and projected revenue estimates were not read into the record during the meeting. The clerk recorded the action and staff will incorporate the ordinance into the county code and implement the new rate beginning July 1, 2025.
